Tomorrow's Child, a project benefitting both the Children's Miracle Network and The Gillettte Children's Hospital Foundation, is a project very near and dear to David Allen's heart. In April of 2002, David's then 4 month-old daughter Alexandra was diagnosed with plagiocephely (flattening of the head) and torticollis (tightening of the neck muscles). It was recommended that Lexi take part in out-patient therapy at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota. David and his wife Kimberly wrestled with not only putting little Lexi through therapy, but also made the difficult decision that she wear a 'CranioCap', which would help her head re-develop into a more normal shape. Lexi went through 5 1/2 months of therapy, and in October of 2002, she was cleared to end her weekly sessions. During the time that David and his family visited Gillette for therapy, they saw countless kids with ailments ranging from common viruses to paralysis. With every child that was affected, there were others... moms, dads, brothers, sisters, and relatives... that were affected too. As hard as things were for these families, every single person working on the hospital's staff tried to soften the impact, and make the day brighter for everyone involved. David, Kimberly, and Lexi found this out first hand. David knew he wanted to do something to raise awareness of what the hospital and it's staff does for kids, how great they treat every single patient, and the Tomorrow's Child Project was born... The lullaby, Tomorrow's Child, was written by David almost 10 years ago, but gathered dust in a notebook until 2001. It was then that David found out he was going to be a dad for the first time. Along with impending fatherhood, David was also working on songs for an upcoming CD. As he was sorting through songs for the CD, he pulled out Tomorrow's Child, dusted it off, and re-wrote some lyrics. He decided it would make a perfect addition to his CD 'forever and a day'... a simple lullabye with piano, strings, and vocal; no more, no less. A song that every parent could sing to their own child, to help them drift off into dreamland. The CD, along with the song, was released in January of 2003. Along with being a singer/songwriter, David also has another 'day' job... a Stay-At-Home Dad to Lexi, now almost 2 years old. It is for this reason that he decided to put Tomorrow's Child on his new CD, and it is why he is now working with CMN and Gillette to help raise awareness for kids and their families, and let them know that there is always hope.
